The GIZ Regulatory Framework Promotion of Pro-Poor Insurance Markets in Asia RFPI Asia III supports the Asia Pacific’s poor through the provision of risk protection through insurance solutions to cover extreme weather events due to climate change. Jointly with the partner countries of Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines, concepts of climate risk insurance (CRI) are advanced and technological platforms are to be developed. The three partner countries covered by the regional program are among the most negatively impacted by climate change, with Vietnam ranked 18th, Indonesia 33rd, and the Philippines 3rd among 171 most at-risk countries (World Risk Report 2017).
To support the program implementation in its partner countries, GIZ RFPI Asia III together with the InsuResilience Secretariat commissioned MicroSave Consulting (MSC) to do a “Landscape Study on Climate and Disaster Risk Insurance in Asia and the Pacific with the objective of assessing the status of CDRI and financing in 22 selected countries. The preliminary results of the study were presented in a pre-conference in the context of the 15th IIIC in November 2019 in Bangladesh. The study has been updated and recently finalized, with its key findings and results seen as important inputs to creating an enabling environment for promotion and development of CDRI in the three partner countries.
In line with this, GIZ RFPI Asia III would want to share the findings of the study through the conduct of a webinar under its Tuesdays with MEFIN (TwM) platform.
